Compare census data, wikipedia, and what others say about race
Use the web for research, notebook for notes and citaiton, Blogger for your reflection and Earth to document place.
Go to your blog. Write about what do you mean when you use the word race. Read your partner's blog and make a comment their blog.

- Research and cite the research
Work in pairs to research "race" and how this concept is treated by others from the web. Pay attention to perpective, bias, point of view from the authors you researcha and cite. Keep track of your research in your Google notebook and share the results with your team partner and teacher.
We all have opinions and ideas about what race' means. To get an idea of what the English speaking world is saying the definition of race is, skim: Wikipedia. Based on your reading, what are people saying the definition of race is? Discuss the reading from Wikipedia and your ideas with your partner. Now, blog what you think race means based on your reading and discussion. For homework, comment on three other classmember's blog.
Even though the census may now allow people to identify themselves as being of more than one race, people tend to still think in “either-or” categories when it comes to race and ethnicity. Blog what reading these examples makes you now think about race.

Use Google Earth and pin point all the places in the world that you and your partner come from.You can save and upload the kmz file to your team page and create a class overlay of everyone's heritage map. |
